From Norway comes a new band called Slomosa, bringing a breath of fresh air to the stoner rock scene. They call their style Tundra Rock and mix the energy of well-known stoner bands such as Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age with their own Nordic sound.
Their first album “Slomosa” from 2020 is really strong. It has thick guitar riffs, rousing drums and catchy melodies that stick in your head. Songs like “Horses”, “There is Nothing New Under the Sun” or “Scavengers” are perfect for dusty roads or cold landscapes in Norway.
What is special about Slomosa is that they have a good feeling for melodies. Many other stoner bands often just play monotonous riffs, but the Norwegians give their songs a pop character without making them sound any less hard or genuine. Benjamin Berdous sings powerfully and is reminiscent of Josh Homme in his prime.
With Tundra Rock, Slomosa show that stoner rock doesn’t just have to come from the desert, but also sounds good in cold, Nordic regions. Anyone who likes powerful riffs, strong bass and catchy melodies should definitely listen to Slomosa.
